En un contexto en el cual Venezuela no puede darse el lujo de perder puntos, empezamos mal. El partido había iniciado bien para nosotros,  las cosas se vieron parejas los primeros 25 minutos, pero una serie de eventos desafortunados sacarían a nuestros jugadores de foco y del partido durante unos cuantos minutos, lo cual terminamos pagando carísimo.

A los 25 minutos se dio el primer trágico evento que fue la horrible lesión de Sema Velázquez, quién sufrió una ruptura del tendón de Aquiles del tobillo izquierdo; convirtiéndose así en una terrible baja para el seleccionado Venezolano. Esta situación lo mantendrá como mínimo unos 7 meses fuera de los terrenos de juego.

Luego de tan sensible baja, Adrián Martínez fue el elegido para cubrir ese espacio en la zaga, pero para nuestro infortunio se va expulsado en su primera intervención al minuto 30, luego de cometer una falta temeraria contra Lionel Messi. El colegiado primero le enseña la amarilla, pero luego rectifica mediante el VAR y le muestra la roja directa. A partir de aquí, el equipo se desordenó por completo.

Los argentinos pusieron el primer gol del encuentro a los 45+2 del primer tiempo, por medio de Lautaro Martínez. En el segundo tiempo llegaron los tantos de Joaquín y Ángel Correa, a los 71’ y 74’ minutos respectivamente. Jefferson Soteldo sería quien descontara para los Venezolanos, picando un penalti con nervios de acero para poner el 1-3.

Por ahora seguimos vivos en la eliminatoria. Aún podemos pelear por el tercer o cuarto puesto. Pero ya no hay margen de error posible, no se pueden perder más puntos (al menos en los dos próximos partidos contra Perú y Paraguay) si queremos seguir con posibilidades.
